You’ve come to the right place

psychotherapist danielle kouri lmft

I’m Danielle and I help 1st and 2nd generation adults just like you: ones that have it within them to work through traumatic or challenging events from their past in order to feel more secure in who they are and to have better relationships with friends, family, and themselves but just need the support to get there.

I help my clients find balance, confidence, and clarity by equipping them with the tools they need to manage emotions and navigate the challenges that come with being bicultural/multicultural and the children or grandchildren of immigrants.

Many of today’s solutions for relationship and identity issues are Eurocentric, leading so many to feel like they have to choose between having a relationship with their families and being their authentic selves. I know that your circumstances are unique, so we look at the impact past events and intergenerational patterns have on your daily life as a guide for what to focus on in session and for setting goals.

First, we examine the triggers and emotional distress that are causing the problems you are experiencing at home, at work, and in your relationships. Then, we connect those issues with events from your past in order to work through them and decrease the impact they have on your life. Through our work together, you’ll be equipped with the skills and tools to confidently manage your emotions and navigate relationships.

I am dedicated to helping people live authentically

My training in trauma, challenging life events, and relationship building means I have the expertise you need and deserve when trying to manage triggers and build more authentic relationships. But at the end of the day, you want to know you’re working with someone who “gets” what it means to be a 1st or 2nd generation SWANA or South Asian adult struggling to balance your identity with your culture, right?

I get it because I have lived it myself. As a Lebanese-American woman, I know how hard it is to balance who you are and what you want for yourself with the expectations of your family and culture. The struggle to balance the cultural expectations of your family with the western ideals of living in the United States. So when we work together, you won’t just get a trained therapist. You’ll get someone who truly understands what you’re going through.
